Project Background
MLA is working on architectural proposals for a new distillery near Dornoch, working to a masterplan by Blyth & Blyth.
Located on the shores of the Dornoch Firth in the eastern Highlands of Scotland, the site sits within a landscape designated for its scenic qualities.

Design Response
Our proposal takes its inspiration from the scenic qualities and experience of the Dornoch Firth; the dynamic and changing coastal landscape, the surrounding wooded backdrop of hills and moors, and the natural colours of the Highland landscape.

The Natural Setting.

Maximising views over the surrounding hills.
The building forms and natural material tones will help to assimilate the development sensitively within this context, whilst also complementing the local Highland architectural context.

Employed creatively, the contemporary use of timber and glazing will generate a light, elegant, timeless addition to this landscape that presents itself proudly and positively within views.
