In 2012 the Boroughmuir High School was replaced by a new facility to the south, leaving this imposing Victorian structure, sitting at the heart of the Viewforth area of Edinburgh, redundant.
The Original School Building looked sad and unloved.

A plan to bring the building back into the heart of the community
Following its purchase by CALA Homes, MLA worked to create a sensitive redevelopment of the former school building to create 87 apartments within the existing structure.
Mezzanine levels make the most of the double height former classroom spaces whilst the courtyard areas, formerly a gym and assembly areas, have been opened up to create gardens with bridged access to the upper levels. This allows for flexible access to the new properties avoiding major alterations to the internal layouts.
A new-build block to the north has created on site affordable housing within a contemporary structure that completes the tenement block to Viewforth.
