Two Scottish Design Awards for MLA

The Resident Edinburgh and Rosebank Distillery win Gold at the Scottish Design Awards 2025
Both our winning projects champion re-use of neglected buildings and put the local community at the heart of their design process.
Our first gold winner in the ‘Retrofit’ category –
The Resident Edinburgh
Urban repair and reducing environmental impact were key factors in this adaptive re-use project. An unloved and disintegrating office block transformed into a stunning boutique hotel.
The concrete core and frame of the building were retained and a new façade added to complement the Victorian surroundings. Carbon reduction measures also included the recycling of external glazing and re-use of the existing steel balustrades.

Our second gold winner in the ‘Commercial/Office/Hotel Building or Project’ category –
Rosebank Distillery
A triumph of preservation, restoration and the blending of old and new. Since reopening last year Rosebank Distillery has quickly become a favourite on the whisky trail and a much-loved local landmark.
Where possible heritage buildings, including a ‘scheduled ancient monument’ were restored and incorporated into the more efficient, linear design. But where necessary materials from downtakings were salvaged for re-use in the new, steel-framed addition to the building.
Thank you to the Scottish Design Awards for recognising these two fantastic buildings of which we are immensely proud.
And well done to our fellow prize winners. See the full list of winners here
